Nico ticked his quill against the parchment paper in irritation. He was currently taking up the entirety of the common room's couch with his Defense Against the Dark Arts homework. "Please," he muttered, "I am the dark arts." All anyone had to do was look in the index of their text book to know that. Of course, no one in school knew he was a werewolf. No, that wasn't completely true...there was Emily, but.... Nico took a sigh before closing the rather large text book and plopping it on the floor. Stretching out his legs he ended up crinkling the several sheets of parchment paper under him.

Normally that'd drive him nuts since he had to have everything in a precise controlled manner. However, it was one in the morning and all his fellow class"mates" were tucked away in bed. Therefor he allowed himself a little wiggle room. It was rare when Nico had time to unwind and "be himself" though he wasn't even entirely sure of who he was anymore. He'd lived a lie for so long, the lines between reality and pretend were fading. All he knew is to show his true emotions in front of others was a weakness he couldn't afford. Fake emotions were perfectly a-okay, because manipulation was all about playing on others feelings. If you didn't at least appear to have any of your own, you'd loose the game lickity split.

While the full moon had recently come and passed, Nico still felt restless as he normally did when a change was about to come. Still, he hadn't expected to be wired tonight, not that preparation mattered. It just usually ensured him something to due. Around a full moon was the only time he left school assignments to the last minute. Turning onto his side to face the fire he tried to get lost in the different patterns the embers spurned through the flames. The hypnotic motion almost lulled him to sleep, but the very thought repulsed him. If he slept on the couch then come morning every fifth and sixth year would seen him strewn out like a dog cuddled in papers. Hell, take the couch away and he'd be the perfect portrait of a stray. Despite the bluff he put up, Nico could be embarrassed.

Mulling over his thoughts he wished for a companion and when he fully processed this his heart almost stopped. Fellow companionship wasn't something Nico yearned for...not since his tenth birthday. Sure, he had "friends," but all of them where disposable and kept at an arms length. So why was he all of a sudden craving for someone to fill the eerie silence of the night? Reluctantly he realized it was because of Emily. They hadn't known each other for long, and Nico treated her like most of his other so-called-friends. The difference was she knew what he was. It was easy to distance himself from his peers when they thought he was a monster for his actions. To have someone find out he actually was a real life monster was on a whole different scale, and one he wasn't accustomed to. Kepp your friends, uh, close, and your enemies even closer, he reasoned in his mind, though deep down he knew that didn't apply to Emily.
