It was a splendid evening, that much could be said. The whole feeling of the place was gentle, lazy, even. A grand Friday afternoon, and all the Firenze Students were kicking back and taking it easy before the weekend officially began. Classes had just ended, with a lot of homework, as usual, but it was time to lay low. Up and at 'em for Saturday, where the partying would take place, and another late night Sunday, keeping their eyes open up until the early hours finishing assignments and projects. It was all a simple cycle really, once you got into the swing of things.
But for all perfection there's always a mess, and Eva's schedule had gone haywire since she had gotten the seeker position. It was all a bit intimidating. There was quite a few much more capable people then her to get the job, and, yet, she was still chosen. Still, she had missed today's practice and was ordered by the captain to make it up by using her evening on the Quidditch Pitch. She had been outraged. She wasn't the only one who was loaded with homework, and she still had a project to finish since last weekend. All the professors were nagging the fourth years about their OWLS, as if they didn't have enough time to study. Sure, Eva was a bit of a nerd, but even she would go as far as to set up a study timetable to help her revise. Grumbling, she shouldered her broomstick and headed out to the Quidditch Pitch.
Admittedly, she felt extremely jealous when she passed those lounging around and doing, basically, nothing. It made her feel irked that she was the only one to be putting extreme effort into something. She passed the Captain on the way and pointedly ignored him, turning around only to glare at his back once he walked away. At least she felt refreshed when the cool air hit her, but she still couldn't manage to pull a smile onto her face.
The stadium was otherworldly. Dust motes, in their millions, were illuminated by the setting sun. Eva watched it for a moment, her green eyes flickering across the pitch, never landing on an object for more than a second. It seemed to be completely completely vacant, yet she could still imagine the huge crowds that would be seated around the tract, the din roaring in her ears as her and the team won a game. That was the only thought that made her smile, and by then, she had resigned herself that she would have to do it. Mentally sighing, she pulled up her leather gloves and mounted the broom.
She pulled a few simple laps, slowly, trying to ease herself into the broom below her and get comfortable. Something was prodding at the back of her mind, as if she was forgetting something. She shrugged off the feeling and leaned down, the broom below her gaining speed until she was zooming around the stadium at a fast velocity. She pulled a few simple maneuvers, practicing her turns. The sheer excitement of going this fast made her grin, and although she was bitter about being out here in the first place, Eva found it hard to adhere bad feelings. It would do her some good, exercising out here while everyone else lounged about. And it was only then that she remembered. How on earth was she supposed to practice when she didn't even have the snitch? No wonder the captain was giving her such a skeptical look.
By then the was skimming the ground agilely, her bosom almost touching the wood below her as she accelerated. The sudden remembrance startled her and she lost concentration, the tip of them broom snagging on the terrain below her. She flew off the broom, surprised and sufficiently bowled over, with a startled shriek. She tumbled head over heels for a moment before stopping abruptly and groaning. Scowling, cursing loudly, and fell back again and tried to get her breath back.
